The SK Selama Alumni Meeting and Raya Reunion was held on 22 September, 2009. It was worth all the effort as it had successfully reunited old friends especially. This joyous occasion as a start is definately good and hopefully, it will lead to more such meets and fruitful results. Since, 2004, during the Golden Anniversary celebration of this school, we had started tracing our ex-pupils and managed to get many to register as members of the alumni. With this important meeting and Raya Reunion we managed to draw many to attend the meeting to discuss the formation of the Alumni formally. It had been my dream to form the Alumni and being the longest serving teacher in the school, I felt a responsibility to make the first move. Putting all negative thoughts aside, together with t our headmistress, PTA Chairman and some ex-pupils we discussed the formation of this Alumni. Efforts to reach out to all the ex -pupils had been done through letters, distribution of membership forms and also our school portal www.skselama.net. Year after year, batches of pupils had passed through our hands and we do feel we are getting older as they get bigger. As for me, it is a joy to see them again and just knowing they are doing well, married and even have kids studying in my school. I always refer to the little ones as my 'cucus'. To think of it , I used to be quite fierce with them but now not so with my pupils. It is nice to talk to them and find out how they are doing . I do appreciate the greetings they continue to send me, their kind thoughts and words of thanks. The sacrifice of time and effort to see the success of this event is worthit as with the help of those who attended it, more will get to know about their school. I am positive , more ex-pupils will contact the school , download the alumni membership form and the number of members will grow. Hopefully, the newly formed alumni committee will run the alumni well and systematically. One thing wonderful is that through a good networking, all committee members will be linked. Besides, the other members will be linked through yahoo group as well. As everyone is busy but if each of us can spare a little time, I believe we can make it successful. The ex-pupils have to take charge themselves and be willing to contribute to their alma mater. The school and the pupils will benefit from it. The ex-pupils themselves have to realise that it is time they think of how they can contribute to their alma mater and not the other way round. We hope pupils nowadays still remember and love their old school though it is only a primary school as it is where they get their early education. Special thanks and appreciation to all ex pupils and teachers who turned up for the Raya Reunion. May you all be blessed with happiness, good health, strength and success . May we meet again during any future event.
