Grachael's Fun KL - Legoland Trip

WORK & ACTIVITIES

SK Selama new 4 storey building was occupied beginning of this year.
2011 like any other year before has kept me busy as usual.  Besides teaching in the classrooms, there are never ending activities from conducting extra free English Classes for my pupils in Yr 6 Gemilang & Yr 6 Cemerlang especially to training participants of the English Carnival ,  planning and organising competitions at the zone and district  and state level ,  judging state and national level English Carnival Competitions, organizing the state level English Camp and others.

The involvement and participation of my pupils in English activities and I being part of it has given me much satisfaction.  It was unbelievable at times that I could be involved at national level this year.  Am just thankful and grateful for the opportunities given and it was indeed a wonderful experience.

After having a new four-storey high building, this school is like being given a new life and with a new headmistress, we teachers are expected to work extra hard to achieve better results than before.  There was an improvement in the 2011 UPSR results, with 16 pupils scoring 5As and also in the quantity passes.  We recorded around 80 % passes in English and as the pupils had done their best themselves and with twenty something pupils scoring an A for English,  I am pleased.  Why are we comparing with other schools and why should certain schools receive the big prize money of thousands of ringgit while others do not?  Should they genuinely deserve it, I kept wondering.  Haven't all the dedicated English teachers been working hard enough compared to those in schools in Terengganu, for example?  Or what is the magical recipe that some schools could perform extremely well when we don't.

After 30 years of teaching and having gone through 3 or 4 times syllabus changes in English,  I have come to realize that teaching English is still an uphill task.  Pupils and even teachers prefer speaking in Bahasa Malaysia in the school after being reminded through English Campaigns.  Being a genuine product from an English medium school, I strongly feel that English is mastered best when students are fully immersed in the English environment.  Sad to say it isn't so nowadays, therefore we can't expect excellent pupils who can really speak English correctly.

From the beginning to the end of this year, my school life ,official duties and contributions as Guru Cemerlang Bahasa Inggeris has been carried out well.  Infact, there are more achievements in store for next year as I've started planning already.  The more I realize I am going to retire 7 years from now, I'm more determined to contribute my service as excellently as I can.  It is no joke I'll be handling 3 English classes of Yr 4, Yr 5 & Yr 6 and with about 40 pupils in each class.  With the number of books to correct and 3 lesson plans each day , plus lots of other tasks to handle, it will be a wonder if I don't get stressed out.  The main reason is I am a Guru Cemerlang and I am expected to do wonders.  Kind of a great challenge, what can I say more!

The photos published on this page is a flashback from the beginning of this year, 2011.  Yet, some photos on some activities were not taken, what a pity!
