I am fortunate to be one of the lucky ones accepted into the university where my hubby and daughter graduated from. I have always wanted to enter USM as it is in Penang and is more convenient. So from 11 - 15 July, I had a lovely experience of campus life. Enjoyed the orientation programme and lectures. Have made many new friends of various professions from all over the country. I felt young once again. I should have been in U long ago. How I wished I could turn back the clock.
It is very challenging and I have to manage my time well. Also I must not be too stressed up and fall sick. I too have to convince my husband especially that I can manage as he is actually against the idea of me working or studying too hard and till late nights. Well, I promised to drive carefully to and from from U and home.
There are already about 5 assignments to be done but a long time is given. Luckily, I have found a few ladies to join my group and we will meet. Hopefully, we will be able to complete all the assignments in time . I am amazed by the high tech ICT which is of great help to self - access studying and this long distance programme . I have been active in social work and indeed Social Science is the right choice. Hope to major in Antropology and Sociology. And for the minor , I have chosen Political Science. This is part of my retirement plan and when I retire I will be involved more actively in social work. This will make my life more meaningful and interesting.
I was surprised that I was chosen to attend the press conference after the oath taking ceremony. Felt honoured to represent the 23 senior citizens who had registered with me. The Vice Chancellor , Datuk Professor Dr Omar told me that he would help apply for permission from the Education Ministry for all the teachers who have just registered as USM students now.
I hope , the Ministry of Education will approve my appeal for permission and will not let us down. I hope too that everything will go smoothly and I will have the strength to face any obstacles if any along the way. Thanks to my family members and friends who have given me the support and encouragement for this.
Together with the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Chancellors, Deans of USM and two other students of this long distance learning programme at the Press Conference. |
