If Only There's More Time

To be able to get up happily in the morning and carry on with our tasks until evening, is a joy. At least we don't just sit and idle away. Last weekend, I spent 3 days camping with the young Red Crescent members at the foothills of Bukit Larut. It had been a long time since I had slept in a tent and I told myself I had to do it again. However, it was only for a day as I slept in my car the last night after listening to an eerie story and suddenly got scared. Well, I wouldn't like to talk about it as it is over. Anyway, sharing experience and helping to look after the participants was great. I used to join Red Crescent camps and our Convent Pulau Tikus RC girls always joined the Saint Xaviers RC boys and we had a lot of fun then. Those are sweet memories.

I hope I'll be able to organise a Red Crescent Camp for the primary school members here again next year like in 2006. Talking from experience, I realise it is easier said than done so if my team and I want it to be a success, we have to start dreaming on it from now. Early preparation is best. I hope to get the response from all the generous town folks and sponsors who helped to make the first ever Red Crescent Camp in Selama a great success.

Now, my school is busy planning a farewell function for our headmistress which is on 1 October and this time it is going to be more grand than the one we had for our Senior Assistant who retired last month. Right after that, there are two main projects; the ICT Carnival and Hari Usahawan on the same days, 9 and 10 October. Just imagine , we'll be busier than ever preparing for these 3 big functions.

Today, we received an expensive set if PA system which will be useful during these functions. Luckily, the furniture and equipment are arriving slowly to fill up the spaces in the four-storey new building. After teaching here for 27 years, it's a real joy to be able to follow closely the history and development of this school. Am proud to be part of its successful story and ever pleased to be able to continue with my contribution here. I've been thinking a lot about the new building. I too get worried thinking about how we are going to wireless the whole school area and how the school will manage to pay for the bills etc. Also, I hope there'll be a facilitator to help in the technical problems.

It's just a month to go and I'll be busy preparing my Year 6 pupils for the coming UPSR examination. Hopefully, after all the hard work of teaching, they will spend some time reading the questions carefully before they attempt to answer. I also hope those indisciplined ones will change their attitudes.

Another matter I'd like to talk about is the Puasa or fasting month. After having been together with my muslim colleagues and pupils for around 30 years, I understand what puasa is. Sometimes, I tried to fast by getting up early to eat and then until evening I'll be looking for food. I've never fasted the whole day like them and I have to try it this time. Thanks to my long lost friend who had reminded me to practise the vipasana meditation I learnt before and I feel it should be done more seriously. Have to find time to cleanse my mind and thoughts as well. Maybe this fasting month will be good for me to practise it again.

Am celebrating 52 this Monday and I feel great. However I realise I don't have much time left. I wouldn't say I'm old , no..no.. Just wiser, more matured and experienced. Guess, I'll live each day the best I can and do the things I wish to do and not regret.

Having been involved in helping others, I've encountered nice as well as bad experiences. All the bad experiences had really opened up my eyes to be more careful and alert the next time. However, my conscience tells me to carry on doing what is right confidently and not to get easily disappointed if things don't go my way. Support from friends, family members, team members and our top authorities is necessary to help us . I'm most happy to be able to get involved in our women societies which look into the welfare and interests of women and children. I get to meet the members who have a mission to help those in need selflessly.

If only there's more time for me to do the things I love to do.
