RED CRESCENT SPIRIT ALWAYS ALIVE

World Red Cross or Red Crescent Day is celebrated internationally on 8 May each year. It is the time for us to reflect on ourselves if we are a Red Crescent member. Have we been practising the RC principles in our daily life or have we forgotten to do so? How can we still contribute to others even if we are no longer RC members? If we look around us, there is indeed a lot we can do to make a difference in someone else's life. It all begins with a warm smile that glows from the bottom of our heart. Our hands reaching out to touch others and comfort the sick and suffering. We show that we love and care for them. All these sincere actions mean a lot to those who are suffering in pain and sorrow. In this cold harsh world where people sometimes simply stand and stare and not lend a helping hand at all, let's brave it all and show that we really care. A heart of gold is really rare .
When someone gives, we receive with gratitude and much appreciation. Such sweet thoughts will brighten up our day and give us peace at heart. What a wonderful feeling!

On 5 May, 2010 attended the Red Crescent Day celebration in SMK Kubu Gajah. Kudos to all the SEKUGA teachers for organizing this event which has been an annual affair for the past 3 years, if I am not mistaken. My friend, Zulaikha Lau really did a good job. Poor students received foodstuff on this day.

The Larut Matang and Selama Red Crescent committee members who are living in Selama contributed to the gifts for the hospital patients to be distributed to all on 8 May, the exact RC Day. I was very excited as I called up the maternity ward and learned that there was indeed a baby who was still in the labour room. Called up Yg. Bhg. Hj Dato Md. Akram, our RC Chairman and went out to get the special baby gift set. Had packed everything into my car and set off to the hospital. We were going to adopt our first Red Crescent baby girl form Selama that morning. Everyone was cheerful and we met the hospital director, Dr Azizah and the other hospital officers and staff who welcomed us. Our Sinar Harian reporter, Nurul Mazwana was around to take good pictures and make a newspaper report. The proud mother, Pn Halimantun Sadiah and her husband, En Jaafar were happy too. They didn't expect their lucky baby and fifth child was going to be our RC baby. After that, we walked to all the wards and distributed gifts to all the patients. Saw my colleague's Shikin's mother and her sick son there too. Before leaving we had some delicious "roti jala' and dessert. Everyone was in a cheerful mood and Dato' talked about making this hospital visit a yearly affair . Nurul interviewed me after that on my involvement in social and community work and we talked until it was about 1.00 pm.

In the evening, I drove to the Taiping Hospital for another such event. I was there last year too. We were just as happy as we photographed with our adopted RC baby boy, named Daniel. The group was larger with members from SMK Convent Taiping and SMK KE V11 and district committee members. We too visited the children ward and distributed the gifts of cakes to the children. Also took the opportunity to see Murugan's mother-in-law in Ward C. When I was driving home I felt exhausted but happy that I had a fulfilling day. On the way home, stopped in Kubu Gajah to see a friend who was in need. For two weeks she has been on my mind and in my heart and I had a great urge to help her in Red Crescent spirit.
