At last the dream camp with its theme , "Friendship, Unity and Harmony" is over. Mission accomplished and its objectives achieved. Well after only a short period of time, the team of facilitators met , planned and carried out the activities for three days and two nights from the 12 to 14 Nov. at the Kem Tegas Mesra, or the National Service Training Camp in Ijok, Batu Kurau, Perak. It was successfully organised for 217 ten year old pupils from all over the LMS district. Participants enjoyed themselves in this English Camp and it was the first time experience camping like this for most of them.

The wonderful experience was to speak English throughout the three days as they participated actively in various fun activities. There were singing, acting, language games, jungle trekking and recreational activities. All of them sang the specially composed camp theme song proudly. Among the most interesting language games conducted were charades, Kim's Game, Simon Says, Shopping At PLKN, Music Box, Pictionary, N.I.E. and Word Maze. Besides, the campers were given opportunities to voice their opinions, discuss and do some presentations either individually or in groups. They had much fun interacting with one another and had made many new friends.

Of course, many said that jungle trekking was the most challenging. Imagine, many town kids haven't had this sort of experience before and they were very excited. Luckily, we gave them the chance to touch those rubber trees and see for themselves the insects and leeches!

Thanks to the facilitators who had sacrificed their time and effort in making this camp a great success. If we can organize it yearly it would be great and participants will be motivated to learn and speak English. Outdoor and enrichment activities in teaching English do support the learning and teaching process.

I do appreciate the LMS Education officers from the Cocurriculum Unit, especially En Ahmad Sapuan, En Omar and Mdm Sormon who had given me the opportunity to organise and coordinate this programme. Seeing the happy faces of the campers gave me great satisfaction and I hope all will treasure sweet memories of this camp. Hopefully, each of them would write their feelings and experiences in their log books and keep them and their beautiful blue T-shirts as souvenirs.
