I was overshocked to hear the PAS Resolution to ban SIS and rehabilitate its members. Well there is definately no gender equality here and unfair treatment towards women thus exists.
Women who are supposed to be working together with men and I mean side by side is definately not allowed by certain parties.
To them women are regarded as weaklings and should remain in the kitchen. Worse still these groups of people belief that women should have no say in governance or important issues. They should remain silent and never voice their opinions aloud. Whatever it is women to them should work or support quietly behind the scene, perhaps in the kitchen, that is so called culture and normal thing to do.
When it comes to rapes, women or girls are blamed for attracting the men. No the men are always 'holy' and innocent guys. Many of whom put on robes or skull caps just to pretend they are pious or holy men. Beware of them because many are hyprocrites or great pretenders. Many of them are womanisers and they marry over and over again just to satisfy their lusts and sex desires. Many indulge in
incests and that is disgusting and don't be surprise they also hold high posts or
are close to the victims and these cases are top secrets between them and their victims. Are men helping to put a stop to rapes, phonography, incests, sexual harrassment ,sexual abuse and domestic violence?
The victims who are left stranded without food or provisions etc are women and children. For years these women suffer mental torture and physical harrassment in the hands of their husbands of fathers. The state of mental illness among women especially due to the unfair treatment of men and continued abuse and harrassment has become worse nowadays.
Do you know who always come to their aid. They are members of NGOs like SIS and other sister organisations. Thumbs up for them. Where the government can't be able to handle the growing number of cases, these NGOs who have volunteers come to help. We should thank them all and salute them for a job well done. No, instead we want to 'haram' one of them.
NO way, we stand united behind our sister NGOs as they are doing a good job. In fact,we should reward them. Award their deserving members medals and praises and donate to these NGOs so that they can continue with their good cause.
Malaysia has yet to enjoy the status of true Malaysian unity and freedom of democracy. We have to learn to respect one another and never cause uneasiness by creating havoc and passing sexist statements. Firstly, we must listen to different views from an organisation or groups.
NEVER be afraid to change if the situation is no longer right. Simple gestures like listening to people's opinions is a good start. I am ashamed that there are still Malaysians who have such conservative thinking in this 21st century. I thought we are making progress towards 1 Malaysia.
I heard of a case where a Muslim man wants to chase his wife and children out of
the house so that he can bring his new young wife in to stay. He has not been supporting the family as he should and his poor wife is slogging like mad to make ends meet and she is owing a lot of money too. Perhaps, SIS can help to relieve
this woman and her children of their misery. When it comes to this problem, the
women are blamed for not knowing how to look after their husbands. Of course,
the husbands will use the power of 'talak' to scare them to death. The situation
usually gets worse and the man will win because he is powerful and have contacts
like friends with the top authorities.
I saw in one divorce letter from the Syariah Court , 'nil' written for 'nafkah' or
maintenance so the happy-go-lucky husband left his wife with about 10 kids.
He continued to marry twice after that. Well to divorce their wives is very
easy and it is done by most without any responsibility. It is a way out of the
men's troubles. This is a fact following case studies done on the number of
increasing divorce cases.
What I'm saying is do we Malaysians want to continue to see this social injustice growing in our society. Definately, these problems are the root of all the other social ills such as drug addiction, prostitution and the 'along' crisis.
Majority of these cases are caused by men. No wonder, the men who monopolise a certain party will like to punish SIS. That is why the women are fighting for at least 30% representation in parliament, any government or organisations. Women want their say and definately will not be bullied by men! SUPPORT THE
NOBLE WORK OF SIS, AWAM, WAO, WCC, PWW (JAG) and other women organisations locally and abroad.
I would like to share this piece of document which I have signed and many of my friends will be doing today. (10 June, 2009 )
JOINT STATEMENT BY MALAYSIAN CIVIL SOCIETY ON PAS RESOLUTION TO BAN SISTERS IN ISLAM
We the undersigned are deeply disturbed by the call on the part of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) to have Sisters in Islam (SIS) banned and its members rehabilitated should its activities be determined to be contrary to the Islamic shariah. It is apparent to us that in making the call in the manner that it has, PAS has already formed the view that SIS should be banned and its activities brought to an end.
While we respect the freedom of members of PAS to associate in a manner that they consider appropriate or warranted as well as their freedom to express a view in association on such matters as they see fit, the members of SIS, or any other organization for that matter, are equally guaranteed those freedoms. No one person or organization has a monopoly over the right to express views on matter of public importance. The call to silence SIS and send its members for rehabilitation is an act of violence against those freedoms and their constitutional underpinnings. It also lends itself to further closure of the already narrow space of public discourse and debate that a slew of anti-expression laws have allowed Malaysians.
For Malaysia to mature into the democracy that Malaysians aspire to, it is vital that diversity, even of views, be protected and nurtured. Respect for the freedoms guaranteed to all Malaysians by the Federal Constitution, be they members of PAS or any other organization or simply individuals, is crucial to this endeavor.
The demand for action against SIS culminating in a ban is not easily reconciled with PAS public rhetoric in favour of a more democratic and inclusive Malaysia. On the contrary, the demand is wholly anti-democratic. We reiterate that though members of PAS are entitled to their views, the call for the banning of SIS is wholly unacceptable. As a matter of principle, the question of banning any organization purely for their views should not arise at all. Differences of views must be respected and, if at all, be resolved through constructive engagement.
In view of this, we urge PAS to reconsider its position and take such steps as are necessary to retract the call for action against SIS.
