15 May 2010 was the nationwide Gotong Royong Perdana in conjunction with Teacher's Day celebration. Well like it or not I was assigned to the hottest zone and to work with my colleague , Azizi and a few boys. Was glad a parent , En Roslan joined us. I could see the teachers and pupils who turned up really did a good job. Some painted murals, others cleared the rooms and even cooked for us. My headmistress also prepared a nice dish for us. Its always fun in SK Selama as all will come together to make any event successful.
16 May 2010 was a happy day as I received lots of lovely messages through smses, Facebook and phone calls from friends , pupils and ex-pupils. After attending our KRT Pekan Selama committee meeting , we drove out to Butterworth to have dinner with my family.
17 May 2010 was Teacher's Day celebration in my school. So far, it was the best celebration in years as it was well organized and everyone was sporting. Started with the gathering, speeches, singing and presentation of gifts from our Parent Teacher Association to the teachers and staff of the school. Will make a dress out of the beautiful pink material. The education officers gave us a surprise by joining us in our celebration. It was indeed happy moments to treasure with cake cutting of the birthday boys and girls. Was so touched by the kind thoughts of the pupils as I received the lovely gifts from my pupils. I don't expect much from them as I think it is unnecessary for them to spend on us. I always tell them the best gifts should be their excellent results and their good behaviour in class.
Off I went to take some candid shots on the field where the teachers were playing futsal and netball with the pupils. Then, for the first time, I started training for the Dikir Barat Hari Guru and loved it. I knew despite the anxiety I went through the whole week, I am all out to enjoy myself that day. I have to show others I am tough within. Well, the kids put up wonderful presentations together with the teachers. I joined the Dikir Barat and Endang performances and will never forget that.
We teachers had a session where we enjoyed exchanging gifts with one another.
On the 29 June, I again had this wonderful opportunity to donate blood at the Selama Hospital . I just felt great as I could donate blood to save someone's dear life. I do hope other teachers from my school especially will join me again next year.
On the third of June, I joined the Teacher's Day choir to present 3 songs, "Guru Malaysia", " Guru Pembina Negara Bangsa" and "Pendidikan Bestari Pemangkin Kegemilangan". Well,we had been practising for about 2 weeks. Enjoyed joining this group and was impressed how Encik Razali conducted the group.
Well, it was the Larut, Matang and Selama District Teacher's Day celebration and I am glad I was there to share beautiful memories. Our school Parent Teacher Association Chairman , Tn Hj Abdul Rani Jais @ Ariffin was presented the 2010 "Tokoh Guru" award. My headmistress, Pn Hjh Jamaiyah received an excellence award herself. Congratulations to both of them.
It was on this beautiful morning that I met the late Pn Latifah Bt Ahmad, the principal who came forward first to shake hands with me and smiled. I would never forget that as a week after that she died in a tragic accident at Pondok Tanjong here. It was the first and last time I saw her. I still am very sad that such a lovely lady who is dedicated to her work could lose her life suddenly. Life is indeed uncertain.
Well, celebrating Teacher's Day is wonderful and it's a day we can enjoy ourselves together. It's nice to be called "Cikgu" .
